Bob Moore Mazda is proud to recognize the ECNL as a leader in youth sports. The ECNL consists of two leagues, one for boys and one for girls, demanding excellence of everyone involved as they raise the game.

Who is the ECNL?

Formed in 2009, the ECNL was from the beginning designed to challenge the current status of youth soccer. It first started with girls’ teams while boys’ teams followed in 2017. ECNL was founded as Elite Clubs National League and began with 40 members along with more than 2000 players. Teams played nine regular-season games to qualify for the national championship for the ECNL.

ECNL quickly rose to prominence and by 2010, it had Nike Soccer as a sponsor for the league. At this point, the league was already expanding to 52 clubs and added another age group. Games expanded to 16 per season. In 2010, ECNL regional games were held.

In July 2011, just two years after the league formed, it was determined to be a worthy challenger in the USYS State Cup and Regionals. ECNL teams swept almost every championship for regional and national.

By August 2012, 73 clubs were part of the ECNL with a 30-game schedule. The ECNL continued to evolve and change, adding clubs, layers of play, and competition to truly live up to the elite name. By August 2016, there were 84 clubs playing in the ECNL.

Changes in 2017

2017 saw major changes take place with the ECNL addition of a boys league and 57 clubs becoming members. Meanwhile, the girls league had 80 member clubs. The boy’s clubs started off just as well as the girl’s, taking four out of five of the first ENPL National Championship.

By 2019, the boys league had attained fame and respect which drew the attention of PUMA North America to become the official ECNL boys apparel partner.

The largest number of teams took to the field in 2019 with 94 girls clubs and 90 boys clubs. Even amidst COVID-19, the league continued to grow. There were a total of 113 girls clubs and 131 boys clubs.

What the ECNL Stands for

The ECNL strives to create an environment of respect for diversity, system, and style, and innovation through programming that revolves around the player. Opportunities are created through exposure while showcasing the excellence of the clubs and the players as they serve as role models. The ECNL seeks to provide for the development of the environment in which the game is played and of the person with excellence all across youth soccer.

The mission of the ECNL is to Raise the Game and it sees itself as more than just a league as it elevates the standards that govern youth soccer and the experience for all involved.

Support the ECNL and youth soccer by supporting your local clubs and the youth who play.
