The CX-90 comes with your choice of a turbocharged gas or a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The ICE Mazda SUV uses a 3.3-liter inline-six engine with a turbocharger, getting 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. S models up your horsepower to 340 horses and 369 lb-ft of torque. While it’s an ICE SUV, the CX-90 has a 48-volt mild hybrid system working in the background. The CX-90 plug-in hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor to generate 323 horsepower. The motor is powered by a 17.8 kWh battery, which delivers 26 miles of all-electric driving range. It charges pretty quickly during your lunch break, going from 20 to 80 percent in about 90 minutes on a 240-volt charger. After you’ve used the electric range, the CX-90 PHEV gets 24 MPG in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The base ICE is pretty similar, getting 24 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
The Mazda CX-90 offers seating configurations for six to eight passengers across its mid-size frame. Behind that rear row, you’ll find about 15.9 cubic feet of cargo space, with 40 cubic feet behind the 2nd row and about 75 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row.
